England 4 – 0 Slovakia

Even Though he may be a “Crazy Man” who likes delivering blows to the Corner flags, Wayne Rooney again showed why he is an important player for the England team as his superb performance outclassed Slovakia. The match served as a perfect confidence inducing platform for the England team as they prepare for there World Cup Qualifier against Ukraine on Wednesday. Prior to the match, a lot of talk was about Wayne Rooney and his dark and temperamental side but that was soon forgotten as England got the the things going.

Rooney and Gerrard were the brilliant players for England and were playing at the very different level from the rest of the team. Good work from Rooney and Gerrard allowed Heskey to score the opening goal from England as he turned in a Gerrard pass. Rooney then sealed the victory for England in the 69th minutes as he headed in from a Beckham cross. Lampard then added a late goal with a superb run and Rooney completed the rout in the injury time when he slotted in. It was a landmark game for Beckham as made his 109th start in the England shirt making him the most capped outfield player and his superb performance will surely give some selection headache to Capello.

The only thing that will take the gloss of this fine victory was the injury to three England strikers. Heskey was soon withdrawn after he scored to be replace by Carlton Cole who also got replace before half time due to injury. Cole’s replacement Peter Crouch, also limped off late in the game and a striker shortage will be a problem for England in the next game. But apart from that, it was fine performance from the whole England Team. Slovakia also caused some problems for England in the first half and David James had to make two fantastic saves to deny them.

But it was the partnership between Gerrard and Rooney that was very pleasing. It was they very Rooney every England supported must have wanted to see after the bad day at Fulham.
