Rafa Benitez sure gets his tactics right when it comes to Champions League. Before the match, many were predicting a Real win at the Bernabeau after there recent superb form and there recent 6 goal thrashing of Real Betis. However, they failed to reporduce the same form against the stubborn Liverpool defence and ended up losing the game 0 -1.
Liverpool were not troubled much be Real as they restricted them to off target shots. Robben was the only player who was causing some trouble for Liverpool thanks to his ability to dribble and turn superbly. He also had the best chance for Real Marid but his shot was turned over by Reina. Liverpool were given a scare when Reina saved a Sergio Ramos header only for Higauin to head in the rebound. But the goal was rightly ruled offside and apart from that, Real were restrcited to long range efforts.
Liverpool were not without there chances and a good chance fell for Torres in the first half when he raced through on goal from right but his shot was superbly saved by Casillas. Benayon also had a chance but Casillas was alert this time and well blocked a Benayon chip. Alonso could have scored a magical goal but his superb strike from his own half was tipped over by Casillas. Things also didn’t get easy for Liverpool as Torres was taken off because of an anke injury. But they magaed to score a crucial away goal when a Benayon headed past Casillas after some poor defeding by Gabriel Heinze resulted in a free kick.
Liverpool now go into the return leg with a crucial away goal and looking at there record, it seems likely that they will win at Anfiled too.
