Spain are Champions of Europe

Spain finally put years of underachievement behind them to win the Euro 2008. A goal from Torres was enough to seal the win for them against a lack lustre German side. Germany’s loss completes a bad season for Michael Ballack as he was part of the losing side in the final of three cups ( League Cup, Champions League, Euro 2008). But for Spain, it was a major victory that have eluded them for the last 44 years.

Looking back at the tournament, Spain had been the best throughout. And when you look at there players, it will be hard to imagine how they didn’t win any trophy for 44 years. The omission of Raul was a major talking point before the tournament, but it was soon forgotten in the opening match as David Villa and Torres formed a deadly strike force to demolish Russia 4 – 1. They further showed there dominance when they beat Italy in a penalty shoot out in the quarter finals. There defence was great with players such Ramos, Puyol and Marchena doing a wonderful job. If you look at the midfield, it was filled with World class players such as Fabregas, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Xabi Alonso. However one player that really caught my eye was Marcos Senna. He performed the role of a holding midfielder superbly and brilliantly stopped the opposition attacks and helped the team to go forward. I am sure we can see him moving to a big club now. And there strike force was a terror in the eyes of every defence. Torres, Villa and Guiza, what more can you ask for. And a brilliant coach in Aragones completed the puzzle. And they were the best in the final too. How they won by only one goal is a surprise. The nearest Germans got to a goal was a Ballack shot the grazed the outside of the post.

Over all the tournament was good and it was great to see the best team winning it.
