Who will Capello Choose to play against Switzerland
The big question in everyone’s mind was whether David Beckham will win his 100th cap for England in Capello’s first game in charge. But that is not going to be case now. Capello has already announced the England squad and there is no room for Beckham right now. According to him, Beckham doesn’t have enough match practice and he is right. The decision clearly shows that we are going to see such similar bold decisions by Capello in the future. He is not the one who can be pressurized by media. His record at Real Madrid clearly showed that he can make big decisions and even change them when he needs to. So clearly Beckham will have a role in the England team in the future, but it does give a chance to Wright Phillips and Ashley Young to stamp there place in the team. Wright Phillips has been performing well for Chelsea and Young is a very exciting potential for the future. We even cant rule out David Bentley for that position too. Aaron Lennon is also an exciting prospect but I guess he will have to wait.
With Paul Robinson dropped, there are chances that Carson and Kirkland both will play some part in the game. The friendly will also give some chance to Woodgate and Upson to prove themselves. We don’t have many surprises in the midfield with the exception of Downing being excluded from the initial 30. Capello preferred Agbonlahor over Defoe but injury to Agbonlahor means Defoe also has a great chance to impress Capello. I think Defoe is a great striker, now that he is going to play at Portsmouth regularly, we are going to see the best of him.
Captaincy is another issue which he is going to deal with. For the friendly, i think it is going to be the battle between Gerrard and Ferdinand although Capello has said that he will choose his final captain after some time. My prediction for the game is England winning it 3-1. So what do you guys think? Who do you think should play ?
As an England and Blackburn fan, I was rather pleased with the general standard of the England game last night - we look better in the first game under a proper manager!
An extra bonus for me was to see David Bentley, a Blackburn player doing great on the right of mid-field - he had some great play, particular his passing.
Even i was pleased with the overall performance but i expected England to score more goals. But it was good to see players such as Jenas and Bentley getting there chance and doing well.
